Nestle ES Parent Bulletin (09-21-2020)

Hello Nestle Neutrons,
this is Ms. Gray, Principal
of Nestle.

This week we begin DIBELS testing in all classes except Pre-k and TK.
Please read the bulletin and attachments for more information about DIBELS assessments and the DIBELS schedule.

Tuesday, we have a do-over of our ELAC orientation and election.
Because of our large numbers of English Language Learners, (students whose first language was Farsi, Russian and Hebrew), we are required to have an ELAC (English Language Advisory Council). This council serves an important role. It meets monthly for about an hour and gives input on school governance and also has the authority to make recommendations about expenditures. Thus far, we have about 120 English Language Learners and that does not include kindergarteners who haven't been tested. Yet, we have very poor participation from parents to serve on the ELAC. We receive funding for our English Language Learners. I find it difficult to believe that parents of English Language learners do not seem to care how the money is spent that their child generated or how we support them specifically. Please attend the ELAC meeting Tuesday at 2:00pm. The zoom ID is in the bulletin, but the passcode will only be given to parents who we can confirm. You will need to email Ms. Cloward for the passcode.

Thursday, Board District 4 is having a Town Hall meeting.
The Taft Community of Schools is a part of Board District 4. See the attached bulletin for more information.

Nestle has a new Library to Go.
Students reserve books online and then a few days later, can come and pick the books up from Rm 19. When the books are returned, they are set aside for any germs to dissipate, for a few days, sanitized, then returned to stock. Our librarian, Ms. Rodriguez, will be training every class how to reserve library books.

Ms. Rodriguez will hold Librarian Office Hours so parents can get information, next Wednesday, September 30th from 1:15-2:00pm.

Thank you for reading and,
Keep helping us,
help your child,
become . . .
"Fundamental to what Matters!"
